Series Varanasi Mini
In 2002, on the occasion of the exhibition nachts vögeln engel, my first catalog with 17 of my drawings was published. The catalog was based on a sketchbook bought in Varanasi in northern India, which I had filled with drawings and notes during my trip.
On my next visit to Varanasi, I had a whole box of these notebooks sent to me. The stack of books was wrapped in cloth and sewn in for shipping. The package was so special, well-traveled and beautiful – and therefore remained unopened for 15 years.
For the past years, I have been removing individual sheets from the booklets to paint on them. The sheets are filled with collaged fragments of thoughts and drawings.
